New Bards' Press LLC Appreciation System Terms and Conditions

I'm not a lawyer but I had my lawyer look over this document and hopefully it doesn't get too unintelligible.

For brevity and clarity please use the following naming conventions when reading this document: New Bards' Press LLC will be referred to as NBP, Author refers to any person who has published a title to the site in any category and in any genre other than fan fiction, Visitor is any person visiting the site, and to "Show Appreciation" means to donate money using the links on this site that lead through a PayPal donation process.

The Appreciation System process is as follows:

  1. A Visitor comes to the site and enters an amount of their choice (over one (1) dollar) into the appreciation form.
  2. The Visitor is taken to PayPal (a secure site) and goes through the payment process.
  3. PayPal processes the payment information. This information is recorded by the Visitor's PayPal account (and/or email if they don't have one) and NBP.
  4. The Visitor is automatically returned to NBP.

The Appreciation System works as follows:

    The idea is simple.
  • Someone likes your writing and wants to show their appreciation for your efforts and writing. They are provided an opportunity to show their appreciation by donating money (any amount over one (1) dollar) through PayPal.
  • NBP will record all donations and provide a record to the Author receiving the appreciation on the NBP site in their My Account page.
  • On the first Monday of each month NBP will distribute any appreciation (minus the fees for PayPal and NBP) to the Author that totals at least ten (10) dollars or more using the email address on file in their NBP account via PayPal (or a provided PayPal email). For example: If you are showing in your records, on the 11th of the month, you have $10.50 in appreciation pending that amount will be distributed to you on the first Monday of the following month. If you have less that $10.00 then that amount will carry over until the next month whereby if the amount is still lower than $10.00 will carry over again.
If after six months from your last distribution any balance that has not increased above $10.00 whatever amount is in the Author's balance will be distributed on the next first Monday of the month or on December 30th whichever comes first.
To summarize: People donate money (show appreciation). You get most (no less than 50%) of the money. NBP gets some money. Everyone is happy.

Please note:
The larger the donation the larger the percentage returned to the author. This is due to the flat fee + percentage structure of PayPal. There is a flat fee of .30 cents per transaction plus 2.9% of the transaction amount. With a flat fee of .30 cents on a one dollar transaction 30 percent has already been eaten up by PayPal's flat fee rate. Then combined with PayPal's additional 2.9% of the transaction's gross and NBP's percentage (currently at 25%) applied to whatever is left over you get a variety of percentages going back to the author.

At any time PayPal may increase or lower their fee for processing. If that happens we will present those changes on the appreciation page and in this document. NBP will always have a fee of at least 25% of the balance after PayPal fees have been removed from the donation total. Here is a table illustrating the most recent fees and donation amounts (as of Oct-2007) and how the appreciation breaks down.
